These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of the Sugar Sangini metabolic self-management application (“Platform”). Sugar Sangini is an independent digital health initiative developed in collaboration with researchers from the Department of Community Medicine & School of Public Health at PGIMER, Chandigarh.

By downloading, creating an account on, accessing, or entering self-management records into Sugar Sangini, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to comply with these Terms, as well as our Data Privacy Protocols.

Acceptance of Terms

Your continued use of the Platform signifies your acceptance of these Terms of Service. If you do not agree with any provision of these Terms, you must discontinue use of the application. Sugar Sangini is provisioned solely for non-commercial educational and public health self-management evaluation. Use of the Platform for commercial solicitation, advertising, or unauthorized data scraping is strictly prohibited.

Where access or registration is assisted by a healthcare worker, such personnel act solely as facilitators. The agreement remains exclusively between you and the developers of Sugar Sangini.

User Eligibility

The Platform is provisioned for individuals meeting the following inclusion parameters:

  • check_circleAge Requirement: Individuals must be eighteen (18) years of age or older under Indian law. Minor access (ages 12–17) is permitted only with verifiable parental or legal guardian consent validated by a participating physician.
  • check_circleHealth Context: Designed specifically for individuals diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM), Prediabetes, or Impaired Fasting Glucose seeking guided lifestyle self-management support.
  • check_circleTerritory: Intended for users residing within India who possess an active mobile phone number capable of receiving SMS authentication.
  • check_circleLegal Capacity: You warrant that you have full legal capacity to understand and provide informed consent under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

Description of Service

Sugar Sangini provides digital self-management tools to help users track lifestyle factors and better manage their metabolic health. The core features available within the Platform include:

Clinical & Anthropometric Logging: Recording of self-measured blood glucose readings, HbA1c test entries, body weight, height, and waist-to-hip circumferences to track metabolic health.

Medical History & Prescriptions: Storage of general medical history (e.g., diabetes duration, comorbidities) and the ability to upload images of prescriptions for personal record-keeping.

Nutritional Guidance: Educational meal logging tailored to regional Indian diets, aligned with dietary guidelines from ICMR and NIN.

Medication Reminders: Non-prescriptive reminder alerts to assist users in adhering to schedules established by their treating doctors.

Educational Support via AI Sangini: A conversational assistant providing general diabetes literacy, healthy lifestyle guidance, and answers to common self-management questions.

The Platform is strictly an educational companion. It does not sell commercial medications, diagnostic equipment, or health products.

Medical Disclaimer & Clinical Scope

PGIMER Institutional Health Notice. Please review carefully before use.

Sugar Sangini is designed solely for health education and self-management support. It is NOT an emergency medical service, an automated diagnostic tool, or a substitute for professional medical judgment, in-person consultation, clinical diagnosis, or individualized prescription therapy.

All estimates, charts, and conversational replies generated by AI Sangini are for general educational purposes only. They do not constitute the practice of medicine or provide formal diagnostic medical advice.

Emergency Situations:If you experience severe symptoms—such as extreme hypoglycemia (<70 mg/dL accompanied by dizziness, shakiness, sweating, or loss of consciousness), extreme hyperglycemia (>300 mg/dL), chest discomfort, breathing difficulty, or acute distress—DO NOT RELY ON THIS APPLICATION. Immediately contact local emergency medical services (112 or local ambulance) or visit the nearest hospital emergency room.

Never alter, stop, or start any prescription medications, insulin dosages, or clinical treatments without direct instructions from your treating physician.

Account Registration and Security

Users register and are uniquely identified using a mobile phone number or email address through a secure authentication process. You agree to:

  • Provide truthful, current, and accurate registration information.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of your device access PINs and authentication codes.
  • Promptly report any suspected unauthorized access or lost device to sugarsangani@gmail.com.
  • Not share your account credentials with unvetted third parties, except an authorized immediate family caregiver.

Privacy & Data Protection

Sugar Sangini operates in compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and the National Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical and Health Research formulated by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

1. No Commercial Sale: PGIMER does not sell, trade, rent, or monetize your personal or health information to commercial insurance companies, advertisers, or drug marketers.

2. Secure Storage: Health records entered in the app are stored securely on servers located in India with standard industry encryption.

3. Right to Withdraw & Deletion: You have the right to request deletion of your account and stored personal data at any time via the Data Deletion Request feature.

User Conduct and Permitted Use

You agree to use the Platform responsibly and for its intended purpose. You agree not to:

blockReverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code or algorithms from the application.
blockUse automated tools, crawlers, or scrapers to access the Platform or overload its systems.
blockTransmit malware, harmful scripts, or unauthorized files through the service.

Hosting & Technical Infrastructure

To provide a secure and reliable experience, Sugar Sangini utilizes standard infrastructure services located in India:

Intellectual Property Rights

All software, design elements, visual interfaces, educational materials, logos, and content within Sugar Sangini are owned by the Department of Community Medicine & School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh.

Users are granted a revocable, limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the application solely for individual self-management purposes.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted under applicable Indian law, PGIMER and its team members will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages resulting from:

  • Errors or inaccuracies in self-entered blood glucose or dietary records.
  • Delay or failure in seeking formal clinical care or emergency medical assistance.
  • Temporary server downtime, network connectivity problems, or app unavailability.
  • Reliance on general conversational educational replies rather than advice from your treating physician.

Disclaimer of Warranties

The Platform is provided on an “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” basis. PGIMER makes no warranties, express or implied, regarding uninterrupted operation, absolute accuracy of automated guidance, or merchantability for any specific non-educational purpose.

Terms Modifications & Updates

PGIMER may update or amend these Terms of Service periodically to reflect changes in legal or institutional protocols. Material updates will be communicated through an in-app notice or SMS before they take effect. Continued use of the Platform after changes are posted represents your acceptance of the updated Terms.

Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of India. Any legal disputes or claims arising out of or related to these Terms will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in Chandigarh, India.

No. Sugar Sangini is strictly a self-management support app. It does not replace physical clinic consultations, foot examinations, retina checks, or routine laboratory tests ordered by your physician. You must continue attending your scheduled outpatient appointments.
2. How is my consent recorded under the DPDP Act, 2023?expand_more
Consent is confirmed digitally through a mandatory, versioned consent agreement presented during app onboarding. The app logs the exact timestamp and version of the consent policy you accepted. You have the right to view, modify, or withdraw your consent at any time.
3. Can a family member help log my readings?expand_more
Yes. A designated family member or caregiver may assist you in entering glucose readings or meals, provided they do so with your authorization.
4. How do I request account and data deletion?expand_more
You can request deletion in the app settings under Account Governance or email sugarsangani@gmail.com. Your personal data will be processed for deletion within 30 days.
5. Are AI Sangini recommendations verified by medical specialists?expand_more
Educational materials and advice templates are developed with medical faculty guidance from PGIMER. However, the automated conversational tool provides general lifestyle information only and cannot diagnose individual conditions.
